Key Features

Decorative Reinforcement This gable plate adds structural reinforcement where a wood beam meets three angled braces, while also giving exposed framing a finished look that fits outdoor living builds. Built for Exterior Use The 12-gauge steel body uses ZMAX galvanization with a black powder coat, which matters when the hardware is going into treated lumber and staying outside year-round. APVGP1212 Fit The Simpson Strong-Tie APVGP1212 gable plate is a 12:12-pitch connector sized for 6x or larger lumber, so it matches larger decorative gable assemblies without field guessing.

Overview

The Simpson Strong-Tie APVGP1212 Outdoor Accents Avant Collection Gable Plate is a decorative wood construction connector made for reinforcing a beam-to-brace connection in outdoor structures. This is a gable plate designed for fastening wood to wood in exposed decorative framing. Model Number: APVGP1212. If you are building a pavilion, patio cover, pergola, or other outdoor living structure with visible truss-style details, this hardware gives you both reinforcement and a cleaner finished look than plain utility plates.

What makes this part matter is where it gets used. The APVGP1212 is built for a connection from one horizontal wood beam to three angled wood braces. The 12:12 pitch layout is meant for that steeper gable look, and this version is sized for 6x or larger lumber. That saves time because you are not trying to adapt undersized hardware to a larger decorative build. The plate itself measures 34-1/2 inches long, 19-3/4 inches high, and uses a 5-inch width at the base sections, so it has the size to look proportional on full-size outdoor framing.

Material and finish are a big part of the value here. Simpson Strong-Tie makes the plate from 12-gauge steel, then adds ZMAX galvanization under a black powder coat. In practical terms, that combination is there for exterior and treated-wood applications where standard interior hardware would be the wrong choice. If the connector is going to stay visible, the black finish also helps it read like intentional architectural hardware instead of a hidden framing part that ended up exposed.

This plate is part of the Outdoor Accents Avant Collection, which uses straighter lines for a more contemporary look than traditional decorative connector hardware. That matters if the project is as much about appearance as structure. On pergolas, patio covers, and custom timber details, hardware is usually right in the customer’s line of sight. The APVGP1212 is built to do the job without looking out of place.

Installation is straightforward, but the hardware choice matters. Simpson specifies installation with Outdoor Accents structural screws and STN22 hex-head washers, with fasteners sold separately. The brand also notes that published load values are based on paired installation. If you install a single plate, use half the listed values. That is important for builders who need both the decorative effect and the expected structural performance without guessing at the connection details.

Bottom line: this is a smart fit for builders, contractors, and serious DIYers who want exposed framing hardware that actually belongs on the project. If you are working with larger posts and beams, want a black decorative connector for exterior wood-to-wood fastening, and need a true gable plate for 12:12 pitch framing, the APVGP1212 is the right kind of part. It is not generic flat stock dressed up as decor. It is purpose-built hardware for visible outdoor structural connections.

Built to Be Seen

This is the kind of connector you use when the framing is part of the finished look. Instead of hiding the joint, the APVGP1212 turns it into a clean architectural detail while reinforcing the connection.

• Designed for beam-to-brace connections using one horizontal member and three angled wood braces
• Black powder-coated finish gives exposed outdoor framing a more finished appearance

Sized for Larger Timber Builds

Scale matters on outdoor structures. This plate is sized for 6x or larger lumber, so it looks right and lands where it should on full-size decorative framing members.

• 12:12 pitch configuration for steep gable designs
• Approximate dimensions: 34-1/2 in. long, 19-3/4 in. high, 5 in. wide

Exterior Finish That Makes Sense

Outdoor hardware needs more than just paint. The APVGP1212 combines galvanized corrosion resistance with a powder-coated exterior, which is the right setup for exposed wood projects and treated lumber applications.

• Made from 12-gauge steel for a solid structural base
• ZMAX galvanization with black powder coat for exterior and treated-wood use
